Suppose that
we, as responsible adults, were to suggest that schools should be populated
according to the eye colour of the children. That we should have specific
schools for children that have blue eyes, separate ones for children with
green eyes, and likewise for dark brown and hazel.
What a
ridiculous idea you would say, and I agree. But hypothesise for a moment
that for some strange reason, we decided that it might be a good idea and
placed the idea into action. What would be the outcome?
In less than
a week we would have created segregation between the children based on the
colour of their eyes. Each group would see themselves as different to the
other group. A short while after this, each child would perceive that they
belong to the superior group and that the other three groups were inferior.
Each group would adopt this stance and group based hatred would begin to
grow and fester.
Now suppose
that the blue eyed children are greater in number than the combined total of
the other three groups, and we add to the beginning of this social experiment
the concept of the teachers in the blue eyed schools informing the children
that to be blue eyed is “just and great”; and they should feel
privileged to be blessed with blue eyes. The effect of this statement to the
blue eyed children on the minority non blue eyed children would be horrific.
We would witness the worst kind of child in the blue eyed children we could
possibly create.
For the above
reasons, such an experiment should be avoided at all costs and should never
be suggested or put in place, and of course it never would be would it. It
never would because it would be completely stupid and irresponsible of the
adults in this country to do such a horrible thing to the developing
malleable minds of young children.
Remember your
honest response to yourself on the above proposal and read on. |
